Afterglow

The fourth song on this album, titled Afterglow, was originally intended sound very differently. I had an idea for a good vocal hook to open the song with before exploding into the instruments, but I couldn't find a verse that went with it. Eventually, I created a separate verse for what would've been another song, but found it blended with an altered version of that original chorus and hook. I slammed them together and discovered Afterglow. Songwriting is fun and fluid like that!

Are we the final ending? The roots of life are pending. This became the new hook, and chorus, and I labored over the lyrics of this piece from start to finish. An afterglow is the light that remains in the sky for a while after the sun has set. Afterglow, the song, is asking if we are living there, if the sun has set on our society and we linger in the dying years. That sounds hyperbolic, but at this stage of the game, nothing is off the table.

Afterglow represents the questions that flooded my mind after accepting the anger and understanding the decades of deception and corruption. I hope we're not the final ending. I want to believe there's more after us. It will take a lot, and that's what the next song touches on. We'll back next week to talk about our single for Rust, Together!
