Together
The fifth song on Rust was written to end the same way it began, so that if you looped the song, it sounded like an infinite track. That's still a neat idea that would've been fun to hear, but as I said before, creating music is a fluid process. Once we starting breaking the song down, we found ideas we liked more and the song transformed. What makes this song special to us, is that everyone contributed something that really stands out.
Chuck brought the bones of the song, which everything was built off of. Hayden filled the drum parts, which Chuck rarely creates, into something catchy and fun. When we decided to revamp the bridge, Zach came up with the new riff on the fly. This changed the trajectory of the rest of the song. Laekyn added wonderful bass notes to that bridge, and Zech brought out the wall pedal. Even James, the man behind Veux Studios, added a riff to the song's outro that always steals my focus. For a song titled Together, it's production ironically fit that name.
Strangely enough, the final product is a song that switches gears in the bridge, and in some ways feels like two different songs. I don't think that assessment is unwarranted, and it has turned some people away from it, but we're proud of it. If nothing else, it has struck many “First Half VS Second Half” debates between us and our friends that you will hopefully enjoy.
Regarding it's message, the lyrics make it quite clear. Despite our attempts to ignore it(which is oftentimes the only sane approach) the world is falling apart around us. Whatever fate is in store for us, we're in it together. We don't have to let the woes of reality destroy who we are. One day at a time, we march forward. Surround yourself with people you love, and face the world with them.
This might be best described as acceptance and adjustment. We can't change what happens to the world at large, but for now, we can change how we're living with what's happening. Be brave, be bold, and be true to yourself.
One more song to go before we wrap up this series. I hope you'll stop by for the conclusion.
